Teach by teaching, not correcting

Installment #9:
I teach because I get to read.
I’m an avid reader. If I wasn’t a teacher, I would still read; however, it is thanks to teaching that I have continued reading and discovering the very best children’s books, picture books, and young adult books.
It is through, and thanks, to my work, that the whole realm of possibility was never shut down or shut away. It is through, and thanks, to my work that I am the best aunt, the best friend, the best neighbor, the best (insert anyone) giving out books at parties or making book recommendations for kids–or at least I consider myself that 😜
Today, I must admit that one of the best reasons, one of the reasons to keep teaching, is getting access to the latest and greatest books.

So, after years of teaching, education, and educator roles, and after years of encouragement and development from fellow educators, I’ve taken the plunge and put myself forward as a candidate for: San Bernardino County, Board of Education, Area C.
There are a multitude of educator hats and leadership positions. We can be teacher leaders, administrators, facilitators, coaches, school board members, union activists, and more.
I’ve pursued training and development for years, I’ve had experience in a few leadership roles. Nevertheless, I’ve been told to keep going and keep leading. And now, I have a website, a Facebook page, a Twitter, and an Instagram dedicated to the pursuit of my next goal, my next chapter, my next avenue for the promotion, not of myself, but of our entire education system. It feels great!

Two summers ago I was involved in a career & technical program for middle school students–this specific program was designed for, and geared for, middle school English Language Learners. The premise and basis of the program: build language through career & technical learning.
This experience was everything; I loved everything about it.
Pictured below are final projects in one of the cosmetology classes–what do you think?
