Welcome Back, it’s 2020!

Welcome back to the second half–in the US at least–of the school year, and welcome to a whole new actual year: 2020.

This winter and spring:

  • I hope to continue a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • I hope to create at least one or two more products; and
  • I hope to find more ways to marry technology and instruction

These, I guess, are my resolutions–and I think I’m sharing them to keep myself accountable 😉

Winter Break

I’m taking my winter break, and I hope you will too.

Read for fun, Netflix and chill, sleep in, catch up on some Hulu originals, travel, relax–it’s time for a break, we earned it.

See you again in 2020!

This year . . .

Over the summer I came across one article on the importance of diverse literature. This topic and concept has always been on my mind–I believe and advocate in culturally responsive teaching, culturally relevant pedagogy, and other tenets of multi-cultural education.

I have acquired knowledge through my university work, expanded my knowledge base in my teacher preparatory program, and finally learned by doing in the classroom. This applies to all components, and my understanding, of teaching and learning.

Now, this year, I want to make a series of posts, a category I will entitle: Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion.

Through readings, and research, I know I have done some work, but I also know I have more to learn, and more to do. By sharing I hold myself accountable; furthermore, I help inspire others, help spread the message, and hopefully offer some ideas to guide us all in becoming better teachers–teachers more committed, now more than ever, to creating a welcoming space for all students.

Welcome Back!

It’s that time of year again . . .

Time to:

  • turn your computer back on
  • look over the schedule
  • get a glimpse at this year’s roster
  • meet a new crop of teachers
  • listen to new guidelines, themes, rules, etc.
  • rehash familiar guidelines, themes, rules, etc.
  • open new boxes
  • open old boxes
  • create bulletin boards
  • laminate
  • fill out beginning of the year forms
  • create student folders
  • rev up that copy machine
  • agree to every technology update
  • attend trainings
  • watch training videos

. . . it’s time to get ready for a new school year.

Take it day by day. Take it item by item. We will all, slowly, frantically, maybe a little enthusiastically, or little hesitantly, be ready soon enough.
