Five things I never knew . . . until I became a teacher:

  • pencils don’t last very long
  • pencil sharpeners can be your best friend
  • pencil sharpeners can be your greatest enemy
  • pencils disappear faster and more mysteriously than socks in a dryer
  • pencils apparently double-up as chew toys
