This pictured was taken a few years ago and I still laugh every time I see it. I wanted a skeleton for a body unit, there was only one available in the entire school. I asked to borrow it and this is how it was delivered to me. I think my sentiments were perfectly captured in this picture.

Since we discussed math recently, I thought I would share one of my favorite math boards. I received this Math In Minutes board through a DonorsChoose grant, it was purchased at Lakeshore Learning. So much rich discussion and spiral review with this thing — loved it!

One of my favorite things in the classroom is listening to a student read. Not for assessment, not to monitor them–just to listen and give them an opportunity to learn for learning’s sake.

Not every moment needs to be fast-paced, data-driven, or assessed. Take a short break from being in charge, or being in full teacher-mode, and just appreciate that reading is learning, that reading should be enjoyed, and that giving a student your undivided attention is beautiful.

No one says you have to own every book you read in your classroom. Local libraries are the best–and usually have perks for teachers. Go in and ask! And while you’re there, don’t forget to get some alphabet books!
